I am taking a moment to remember one of the most decorated black female Olympians, Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Born on March 3, 1962, in East St. Louis, Illinois, she’s a gracious, tough and talented athlete. Joyner-Kersee has won 6 medals – three gold, one silver, and two bronze in the women’s heptathlon as well as in the women’s long jump of which she holds the record at 7.49 meters.
Sports Illustrated for Women magazine voted Joyner-Kersee the Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th century,
